At NordSmil, we take your dental anxiety seriously. We know that visiting the dentist can be challenging if you suffer from nervousness or discomfort.
Therefore, our dentists have extensive experience in treating patients with dental anxiety, and we can also offer treatments using various supportive aids. This can include options such as:
Local anesthesia, Premedication, Sedation and General anesthesia (full narcosis)
If you suffer from dental anxiety, you are not alone. In fact, it is estimated that 10% of the population experiences so much fear that they skip their dental appointments altogether!
However, avoiding the dentist can easily take a toll on your teeth and oral health. Minor dental issues are left to grow into major problems, and suddenly you might experience:
Pain and damage to your teeth
Problems ranging from bad breath to difficulty chewing
Systemic health issues, as your teeth are closely linked to the rest of your immune system. This means untreated dental problems can spread and cause headaches, sleep disorders, or feber due to infections and inflammation.
In other words, it is crucial to take care of your teeth and have them checked regularly. And we are here to help you, despite your dental anxiety.
When you visit a NordSmil clinic, you will meet staff who are trained to make patients with dental anxiety feel comfortable and at ease.
Just let us know about your dental anxiety, and we will adapt our routines to your visit. This means that we:
Give you time to adjust to the situation and respect breaks along the way.
Are completely transparent about what we do, ensuring you won’t experience any sudden surprises.
Prioritize creating a safe and secure environment above all else.
We recommend arriving well-rested for your dental appointment—and you are more than welcome to bring a friend or family member along for moral support.
For some patients, we can also ease the experience by providing treatment with various supportive aids. This includes options such as:
Local anesthesia
Premedication
Sedation
General anesthesia (full narcosis)
For some patients, dental anxiety can be so pronounced that it requires treatment under general anesthesia. This is often because they have avoided visiting the dentist and now require more extensive treatment.
Initial Consultation: The dentist will begin with an initial consultation to map out a treatment plan and provide you with thorough information.
The Procedure: During the actual treatment, an anesthesiologist will be present to manage the anesthesia, while the dentist performs the agreed-upon procedure. The anesthesiologist closely monitors you throughout and ensures you wake up safely and properly after the treatment.
Follow-up Visit: A follow-up visit will be scheduled to examine the results. This may involve minor adjustments—and our experience shows that by this stage, our patients place great trust in us and have already significantly reduced their dental anxiety.
Please note: General anesthesia cannot be offered to everyone. Factors such as obesity, current medications, or underlying medical conditions may rule out this option. The assessment of your eligibility will always be conducted by an experienced anesthesiologist.
